godwho's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God who? I read something Saturday night that was extremely interesting. It's from a sermon by Fleming Rutledge from the book and about the life of Job. She says, "Is the God of the Bible a god that we have reated for ourselves? Job was written, at least in part, to give a resounding 'no' to that question. God does not respond to Job's wishes and needs; on the contrary, he seems to be completely independent of them. God's reply to Job is no reply at all; it is a disclosure of radical divine autonomy... Instead of answers and explanations, God grants a revelation of himself in his pure being. Job, in the inevitable self-centeredness that comes with misery, had forgotten that God exists entirely apart from Job's need for him." Awesome. 2:42 p.m. - 2008-02-04 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
